I need to transfer my contacts off of an LG Xenon that has a broken screen?

I know that they make a USB data cable for the Xenon, but do I need the screen in order to pull my contacts off of it, or does it work like an iPod? Also, if I can get the contacts off without the screen, do I need some kind of extra software to do it?
