While alive he had an inquiring mind. The one main driving question that he sought to answer was, can it be made better for less money. This led to many innovations by Ford Motor Company (as well as failures).
It is interesting to note, he never would hire a person for management that salted or peppered their food before tasting it. Because he felt that you had to know what you had before you messed with it.
