i need to change my mountain bike twist shifter wire, it melted in the sun?

hello, im trying to change the shifter wires on my bike, they both melt ad are beyond repair, my main problem is that i can't get the wire on the twist shifter, to get the old one off i had to cut off the tip.how do i put a new wire on?
