It takes place in 1795. My lead character, Isabelle, is slightly modeled after Jane Austen's heroine Fanny Price of Mansfield Park and Anne Elliot of Persuasion; she is taken in and brought up by her mother's family after her parents die of small pox.
It starts out when Isabelle is 24 and has just had her heart broken; the man she was in love with married her spoiled and detestable cousin, Harriet. She is finally convinced the spinsterhood is her life's destiny. One night, she goes to a ball, where she meets again after ten years someone that she knew in her childhood. To make a long story short, her uncle wants his own daughter to marry the gentleman because he makes ten thousand pounds per year, but Isabelle and the man begin to form an attachment.
It's mostly a dramatic and angst-filled love story with some Jane Austen elements.
