Hi Everyone,
I am going to a new Neurosurgeon Wednesday morning and need some advice in how to respond to the Dr. I have pain in my right and left mid-back, and also lower back. How do I explain what the pain feels like when he ask me?
I can be on my feet for maybe 20 minutes and then my mid-back and lower kind of feels like someone has a big hand and is pushing it against my back, or like I'm being squeezed in all those areas. After 20 minutes I have to sit down with my feet up. I already know through MRI that I have bulging disk and protruding disk. Also had a T12 fracture that was fixed in January with cement procedure. I'm 59 years young, female, and have Osteopenia.

Hi, that sounRAB like the type of pain I have been dealing with for a long time. I describe mine as alot of pressure and a bad aching pain, yet I did nothing but sit, stand or walk for 20 min. I have arthritis in my facet joints and a bulging disc lurabar area, that is pinching a nerve, apparently causing the bad ache and pressure I get in my low back if I sit, stand, walk very long, and cramps in my legs. I am going to get injections for this, epidural for the leg cramps, and SI for the low bad ( buttock ) pain. I have had these before, under sedation, and they did help. Good luck at your appt.

Be honest! What you posted would be a good start. The surgeon should take the time to evaluate you and ask some questions also.

Thanks for the advice. Went to Dr. He said I needed a fusion at L 4/5, but before that I need to go back to my Work Comp Dr. and have him fix a T12 fracture that had been fixed with Kyphoplasty (cement). He said the vertebra was more collapsed. Dr. also is referring me to my primary Dr. to be on a infusion for Osteopenia once a year, because he said when he does the fusion the screws need to be able to hold in the bone. I go back in 3 weeks and we'll see where I am. By the way, currently I cannot be on my feet for more than 20 minutes before I need to sit because of Mid-back and lurabar.
