I am asking this on behalf of my mother. Who is in danger of losing her car and her house. She is single, and on disability. My younger sister (who is about to turn 18) lives with her, as well as my 5 year old nephew My mother is trying very hard to make ends meet as it is, and money is very tight because she is unable to work. My younger sister was receiving social security after my father passed, but when she turns 18 (this March) she will no longer get the money. After this March, my mother will not be able to pay her rent, let alone bills, food and other necessary things. My sister does have a job, but plans to move out. We live in NY and my mother is planning on applying for food stamps to make sure that my nephew has enough to eat, but is not sure how that will work, or it will be enough to help. Is there anything that my mother can do; some sort of agency or group that she can contact that can help her. She is already on section 8 and they pay part of her rent, but she still has to pay for most of it on her own. I am very worried about her, and have no means of financially supporting her or my nephew. I am very worried, terrified actually, is there anything that can be done to make sure that she will not be forced out of her home or to struggle even harder to make ends meet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
