I need some ideas for my fish tank?

I have a 20 gallon fish tank and I was wondering what is your suggestions for a somewhat larger fish (meaning like 4inches) that I can keep in it comfortably with a few shoaling fish and that's it or if maybe it would be better to just keep a few schools of small shoaling fish?
 
My favorite fish that is 4-6 inches is gourami. I love the red dwarf gourami, which grow to 4 inches. And they come in several colors and are pretty docile. The bigger gouramis get to about 6 inches, and they are nice too. :)
