My hamster recently passed away... :( So I decided to stick with tropical, or some kind of exotic fish I can get from petsmart. I have been having a hard time researching, so I need help. The money is covered, and I already have an aquarium. I want a fish that'll stick with me for years, and one that can live alone and together. I want one that looks cool too. Maybe that eel thingy... Plz help me!!!! Please list several fish that meet up to my wants. Could ya also describe their appearance? Thx!

No one can recommend fish without knowing your aquarium size as well as the equipment you have. (Filter, heater, lights, etc.)

What size aquarium? Tank size dictates type of fish.

Be sure to cycle the aquarium prior to adding fish- http://aquatropicalfish.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/fishless-cycle/

Ummm...i would recommend u to get these fish...i've had these tropical fish for about 3 years in a 25 gallon...really pretty to watch... they are the black tetra, white tetra, and the red phantom tetra. TRY IT OUT!

You have an aquarium? Or just the tank? An aquarium already has everything needed in it. A tank is simply that. No fish, no plants, no accessories, no water. Well, it could have water.
If you're referring to a tank that the hamster was in, or other critters may have been in, you're risking losing some fish, maybe all of them.
Otherwise, it depends on the size of the tank.
Provide the tank size for decent answers, please.

What do you know? The poor hamster was in an aquarium. How did it get along with the fish? Did it feed on the plants? Did it have gills, or come out for air like aquatic frogs do? That must have been quite a hamster!
Oops, excuse the sarcasm...on second thought, don't.

Youd be surprised how many fish come close to meeting your very vague wants. Theres a few links that have hundreds of pictures and information.

(and those eel things that petsmart has are probably too big for your tank. They often sell senegal birchirs under the name dinosaur eel. Those guys grow between 12-16 inches and should have at least a 45-55 gallon to be comfy. Ive also seen peacock and a few other spiny eels there. The spiny eels that they stock tend to be much smaller than the other one. They should max at 8-10 inches and should be fine in a 20-30 gallon. But again, this is just me guessing at what you saw. If you want information, you have to be specific)

Well, we have to know how big your tank is first..... You could get some Killifish....I have some Panchax (I believe they are striped panchax. I have read that they are rare to find though) and they are pretty cool. The male\female is beautiful. I am not sure which it is with the beautiful color. How about Coolie loaches? Hope I helped!
