i have a good recipe book, but most stuff in there says add lard, i live in the usa now, where do i get lard from in the usa. or is there a substitute for it, can i buy in a shopping store.
like in England.
You can substitute an equal amount of shortening for the lard but the lard would give you a better result. Especially in pie crust. I get my lard from a local butcher shop here in the US. The lard that's sold in most of the grocery stores has things in it other than just plain old pork fat.
Check with some of the butcher shops in the area; they might be able to tell you where to get some. It keeps forever if you keep it in the fridge too!
