...next. I'm bad with details.? My whole body ached, I opened my eyes to see where I was, but I couldn’t tell if my eyes really open. Or if my eyes where closed. Was I dead? What had happened? I couldn’t remember much; my memory was foggy. All I remembered was being tired and laying down on my bed. But how had I ended up here? I heard low murmurs somewhere in the dark, getting closer to me. I tried sitting up but when I did a sharp burning pain stung my wrist, and straps held me down.
I moaned in agony.
“She’s waking,” I heard someone say.
“Leave me alone with her.” The voice commanded.
The lights turned on and I was blinded by the brightness. After awhile my eyes adjusted, and I was able to see what had been a moment ago a dark hazy figure, a man with delicate features. His eyes were jade green and full of concern. He had jet-black hair, and very pale skin, and an exotic look; his skin didn’t match his look.
“ Giselle?”
I was so confused about answering him. That wasn’t my name, but somehow it felt familiar like I’d been called that name all my life.
“It’s me, Francis.” He waited patiently for my response. He looked so familiar, but I was sure I had never seen him. Yet this other part of me cried out “Francis!” in my head. My heart yearned for him. But it wasn’t me it was something in me that I couldn’t control.
I found my voice. “Where am I? “
“You’re home, you’re safe now. Do you remember what happened?”
“What? Home? My name’s not Giselle and I’ve never seen you! Why am I tied up?”
“Calm down sweetie, a group of hunters captured you, they tried to kill you. You would be dead by now if it weren’t for Andrea. I think you hit your head pretty hard; it’ll all come back to you. Now, rest.” How could this calm me down? When he was telling me that I was being hunted. This frightened me. What could I have possibly done or turned into that would make me dangerous?
He left the room, and I could hear him outside in the hallway, talking with someone. “She doesn’t remember anything, she looked confused, didn’t recognize, me and said her name wasn’t Giselle.”
There was a gasp. “Do you think perhaps the hunters could have operated an insertion on her? Or even worse they could’ve made her a…” the voice trailed off as if too scared to finish the sentence.
“No, don’t even think, Andrea, impossible, she’d be dead. There is no way a vampire could have survived that.” Francis was trying to deny the possibility, more to himself than to her.
I started to panic. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My ears were lying to me. They weren’t working right. “There is no way a vampire could have survived that,” the words echoed in my head. Me a vampire? This was all wrong. I examined my legs and arms. My arms were spread apart and tied with rope, blood was crusted where rope tightly rubbed my wrist. The rope was anchored to the bed frame. I looked at my glossy white legs, bound together by heavy chains. Then I realized I hadn’t taken a breath since I awakened; I didn’t feel the need, neither had I felt my heart beating against in my chest where it should have been. I was dead.
I was terrorized by reality. “No! No! No! Why?” I cried. “Why? Why? Why…” I sobbed. Francis came in a hurry, flinging the door open, worried.
“What’s wrong? Giselle please calm down.”
“I’m not Giselle my name’s Samantha kranz!” I screamed through tears. “Don’t you ask me to calm down when I don’t know where I am or how I died! Do you expect me to just lay here like I haven’t just been kidnapped by a bunch of blood suckers and turned into one of them!” As soon as I said that, I regretted it. The look on his face was like the reaction of taking a lollipop away from a baby. My words hurt. I couldn’t understand why this affected me. It was a mix of strong emotion that was a part of me now that I had never experienced. It was unexplainable.
“Andrea was right. This is what I had feared the most.” He paused, “Samantha, right?” I nodded, “if I untie you, will you calm down and let me explain?”
“That’s exactly what I want.” I replied.
Francis undid the ropes on my wrist, carefully. As he did this I watched him carefully, admiring his odd complex face, yet so simple and pure. He had that very pale marbly skin. His expression was stern and serious. He was beautiful.
Francis looked up and caught me starring at him. I felt my lifeless cheeks get warm. “Oh sorry it’s just that I’ve never seen someone so… unique.” He smiled and continued to untie me.
When I was untied, I tried moving my arms and legs but they were limp and numb.
“You’ll be ok. You’re still partly human.”
I felt my body flinch involuntarily at the words “partly human”. Did that that mean I was going to become one of them, eventually?
“We saved you from vampire hunters, Giselle,” he paused to correct himself, “Err Giselle’s body, and your soul from the hunters. Giselle insisted on becoming one of us she wanted to be immortal, she wanted to be with me forever.” He smiled, and I though
