I need help with Spore and the Civilization Stage?

I just started the Civ. stage and so far my people are a religious society. I've gone to go convert a city, but I don't know how! Please help!

Also, can you change from a Religious to an Economic Society?
 
use your religious vehicles on another city. If it is an economic city, you can keep that city as economic
 
I got it last week and I'm only upto the creature stage. It doesn't work properly on my computer for some reason.
