I need help with my Betta fish?

So ive had a male Betta fish for about a month. Well yetserday i decided to get him a female fish companion. I put the new fish in his tank today. She is a female Betta. I was told at the pet store a female Betta and a male Betta can live togther. When i put the female Betta in the water at first they were ok togther. But then after about 20 minutes the male started to attack the female. I took her out because he continued to attack her i didnt want her to get hurt. What do I do?
 
catx is wright the person who sold you that fish should have red ears buy the time you leave the shop, what would have happened lets say if you had brought a champion male betta and the female chased and killed it i bet you would have a thing or two to say about that, how people like this get employed buy the shop is beond me they read one book or buy a tank and all of a sudden they are an expert, sorry for being so passionate but it is shop owners like myself who have to pick up the pieces when people ask this is ok to put with that one the other shop keeper said so and they still expect me to sell them the fish,
