I need help with GHz and The Sims 3 requirements?

I am thinking about buying The Sims 3 but not sure if it will run on my laptop. I have a Windows Xp Professional with 240MB of RAM and 1.20 GHz. I have researched this and so far found out that I need at least 2.0GHz. Is there any way to increase the number of GHz and how? Also, are there any more system requirements that I need so The Sims 3 will run on my laptop?
