This is a book my sister read when she was in her teens (she's now in her late 20s), and I am trying to help her find the author/and or title, so we can find the book.
The synopsis of the book is this: A girl has a mother who is a painter. Her mother had an affair with a man who happened to be married. The mother is African American and the father white. The mother ends up going crazy or something to that effect, which in turn has the girl ending up in foster care. The father finds her, and takes her out of foster care, although not legally, and they go on the run.
Another tidbit about this book is that I think the girl ends up having a half brother her age or around the same age as her.
I'm also not sure how long the father knew that his daughter was alive or even existed, but he didn't like that she was in foster care, so he went to take her out. I don't know if they went on the lamb because there were issues surrounding him taking her out legally.
