When I turn the key, something makes a fast whirring noise (without cranking the engine) until I release the key. After doing this anywhere from 2 to 10 times, finally the engine will crank and start. My battery is brand new. I don't know much about auto repair, but have been trying to learn. Could the problem be the starter? solenoid? ignition? I guess I should add that after shutting it down, the engine chugs for a while. Any ideas on what to look for? Thanks!
