I Need GPS for my Palm TX... suggestions?

Hello Palm TX owners/retailers... I am a commercial truck driver and am looking for suggestions as to which of the available GPS packages would be best for me? Please advise me if there is a GPS that works particularly well with my Palm T/X for truck drivers who have special driving need to knows (low bridges, restrictions, etc.). My Palm TX was purchased in Sept of this year.

If anyone does have advice about a GPS software/receiver package, but not necessarily for truck drivers but for anyone, kindly respond to this thread. Thank you! Greg
 
You're actually after two separate things - a GPS receiver, and satellite navigation software. Although sometimes you'll find the two sold as a single package, eg. the GPS kits that Palm offers.

I've used a Palm with both wired and wireless (Bluetooth) GPS receivers, and I have to say I preferred the wired version for driving. It's less finicky than Bluetooth can be, plus there's only one power cable needed - and if you're using it for hours at a time, you probably *will* want to keep in on power!

For the software, I'm afraid I don't know what's available with all the extras that lorry drivers need - it's possible they may only be available as complete satnav units, and not in software form to run on a Palm.

I do know it's not a good idea to try navigating a lorry using a car satnav, however. Every so often we get amusing stories in the press here about lorry drivers getting stuck on narrow tracks, or trying to drive through village lanes, etc., and in some cases it's clearly because they're using a satnav system designed for cars. Narrow lanes might be less of a problem in the US, I guess... (-:
 
I am using Nav 6 from TomTom. I comes with a GPS receiver and a SD card or CD that holds the software and maps. I don't think it has any info about low bridges, load restriction. You may be able to get that info from the company or their forum.
