I need Ford Transmission Help!?

Ok so heres the story. I bought a 1992 Ford F-150 Flareside that had a 4.9l 300cui I-6 engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. The day I bought the truck it threw a rod through the block and I had to install a new (used) engine. Since I finished that I've probably put 2000 miles on the truck. The other day I was driving home, doing about 60 on the highway and a semi was passing so I slightly let off the accelerator, when I did my truck jerked real hard like I had pumped the brakes, but I hadn't. About 10 miles down the road, overdrive in the truck starting making strange noises. My first thought is that I was losing overdrive so I went to shift into 4th just to make it home. When I went to put my foot down, my clutch pedal was all the way against the floor and I couldn't get it to return. I pulled to the side of the road and pulled up the clutch pedal with my foot. It returned and acted like normal, normal pressure, normal return etc. I went to shift my truck into 2nd to take off again, and the shifter was stuck in overdrive . I finally (after about an hour of rocking back and forth) got the shifter out of overdrive, but now the truck is stuck in overdrive even though my shift lever is in nuetral. Even when the clutch is pushed down, you cant move the truck, I had to take the driveshaft out. I got it home last night and began pulling the transmission, and I'm going to drop it today but I was hoping someone could give me a starting point to look at.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that while my truck was making weird noises in overdrive, it sounded like something fell off. I've been looking all over that tranny and I cant find any linkage. Is it inside the case on this transmission, or is that maybe what fell? I was also thinking that maybe the throwout bearing came off the pressure plate, or I broke the shifting forks. But I dont know a whole lot about trans work.
