I need bike help? What to choose?

Okay well I have absolutely no clue when it comes to bikes. I tend to be rougher with my bikes so I was thinking a mountain bike for me but then the cruisers because I'll be riding around in my neighborhood. I'd definitely need a women's bike because of my height, (5'8")

Any websites reccommended or actual bikes is VERY helpful! I do have a price range somewhere around 100-400. I'm paying for most of it myself and my parents like the extra 100.
