i just got about 18 rosey reds yesterday at the local walmart and almost all of died acept for 5 and i have them all in a 10 gal tank and they are being fed flakes and their is nothing in the tank but them and a filter why do they keep ding i already treated the water and the temp seems fine....advice?

They might be salt water so if you have just water then that might be it. Or it could be the other way around where you have salt water in there and they are fresh water. Sorry about the deaths. Good luck with the others.

Have you tested your water? If so, what are the results?

Did you add them all at once? Even if you didn't, 18 rosey reds is majorly overstocking a 10 gallon tank. I wouldn't keep 18 rosys in anything smaller than a 55 gallon tank. Adding them all at once also overloads the filter, and shock results, killing several, if not all, fish.

How often are you feeding your fish? If it's more than once a day, they are probably overfed, another common cause of death in aquarium fish. I also recommend not feeding your fish for the first day or two after you've bought them or they've been moved. It gives them time to adjust to the tank.

Maybe the wasn't enough bacteria because if you add more than 2 fish a week then chances are they will dye. I put 4 tetras in a week and they died. Also buy some live plants for them to hide in because rosey reds tend to sometimes nip at others because they feel threantend. I had rosey reds. I you have an extra tank maybe try putting them in there half and half so they have time to build up bacteria. Next time you add fish add them into the tank 1-2 fish per week. Also 18 are way to many i would buy 5-7. If the tank is overstocked than chances are they will die.
