...Curious.? I am 18 years old now, and I am going to college in the future. I plan to pay for college through grants and loans but there's something I'm wondering. My parents are divorced, I live with my mother in California while he lives in Virginia. I reapplied to the university I was planning to attend this fall (because of unexpected sickness), now I have to wait.. but anyway. My dad's name as well as mine are on the Savings Bonds for my college funds(education?). He has saved up money for college for me since I was born.
I don't know if it's possible, but could I take my father to court to pay me the amount of those bonds. I actually have photos of them... but like I said before my father has them.
I did not agree to his plan to move me across the country for college, so he got very angry and told me that I wouldn't see any of my college funds and that I was on my own. He was willing to help pay for tuition and fee's, but I already applied to my desired university so it wouldn't have worked out. There has been trust issues with him and his wife (my step mother).
Can my dad refuse to give me the savings bonds? I know they're under his name, but since he's refused to help I'm not sure if I can get the amount of the bonds. Can the court award me the Saving Bonds or since they're in his name too would their be some kind of conflict?
I also forgot to mention that they are the EE series.
