I want to see where my child is going on the internet, but i have heard that most keyloggers steal your information and send them to hackers. What are some good programs for Windows and Mac?

Is it against the law? My son is 15 year old. I am considering about putting a keylogger Mac on his MacBook, but I am not sure if it is illegal to this keylogger for Mac or sth like parental Mac keylogger?
