i need a replacement screen for tv?

i have a Toshiba 42 rear projection TV and the front screen has got cracked in about 5 places only about 3inch each i no you cant buy these anymore but i was wondering does anybody no if you can use a piece of Plexiglass in stead ?as i could have a bit cut that would do the job
