on my summer assignment, out of all the questions i just dont under stand two of them. Could you please help me out?

Why did the author of “All men are created equal,” Thomas Jefferson, remain a slaveholder all his life?
What was Charles Beard’s view of the Constitution and how does that view compare to the traditional secondary school textbook viewpoint? Be specific in your response.

well,

to the first question,
Thomas Jefferson did say that all men are created equal.
this is my thought,
not what i know for sure.

there has always got to be someone on top (such as, our government) if there isn't one to make decisions and say what goes, there is only confusion and fighting.

so.
how this relates with Thomas Jefferson:

Thomas Jefferson is the head of the slaves.
Just because they are slaves does not mean they are unequal.
they could have been treated equally, you know.

it's just like there's the boss, then there's also the people who work.
the people who work get paid.

the slaves are actually paid (i believe) and they are given a place to sleep and food to eat.

and some are even given an education!

so.
that's what i think of the 1st question.

the second question???

i've got NO clue.
sorry.

hope that helped at least a little

the first one - black people just weren't seen as "real people" in that time. it's sick, but it would be like someone treating a dog as a human would be today. that was a disgusting attitude but that's how everyone thought back then. even social activists and revolutionaries like jefferson in that time didn't give a thought to black people.

the second question, i don't know much about american history, sorry.
