Ask them to create an animal hero and give it a name. It can be any kind of animal they'd like. Then, write about world from the animal's eyes, needs, instincts. This will force them to see it from a different perspective. They need to give as much detail as possible. Once they have described the world from the animal's viewpoint, ask them how they would go about making the world easier, kinder, more accepting, more accommodating, etc. for that animal. Once the changes have been made, have the animal discuss how the changes impacted and improved the quality of its life. I think by doing this writing exercise, they will generate many ideas regarding such things as safety, worth, power, importance, and making a change.
