I need a flash similar to the SB-600 or 800.?

But don't want to pay that much, i want to use with Nikon D40, any suggestions or reviews of a generic brand? And i do want a dedicated flash to fully utilize the options the D40 has for flash and I-TTL
Yes Coadhen, and obviously didn't get the answer i was looking for, and how many volts is safe NOT to fry my camera?
 
Only the SB400, SB600, SB800 and SB900 are fully dedicated flash unit that can use all the proprietary options on your fine D40.

No generic flash has the necessary license to produce such a flash. You will just have to save your pennies and get the real deal
