M Milk New member Dec 1, 2009 #1 b+3b=12 you have to combine the like terms (the b's.) so when you add 1b+3b you get 4b then, you have 4b=12 you divide by 4 on each side to get the b by itself 4b/4=12/4 b=12 there's your answer!
