I know it sounds stupid, but hear me out.
Recently, one of my "sort-of" friends broke up with her previous boyfriend. I'm pretty sure she's on the rebound, and she has her eyes on this new transfer student. She's much prettier than me of course...the only thing I have going for me is intelligence at this point and considering I have to ask this question, I don't feel very smart at the moment.
So this new guy seems to show some interest in me, but both of us are extremely shy and now that she's come into the picture I feel the urge to back off before I get involved in a triangle/drama. I was just going to take things slow with the guy in the first place, but now I don't know if I should speed it up a bit to let her know, or just drop it.
Would it be better to just let her rebound and have the new guy (it'd be his first girlfriend)? I'm not sure if she's just going to use him to make her ex jealous, but it's a possibility.
At the same time I would hate fighting over a guy like he's some sort of object ("I saw him first"), I just don't want to see his heart get torn in two if she's just using him.
