I met a boy recently and I want to talk to him.. Can I text him first?

I met this boy a couple of weeks ago at school. We ended up hanging out and he slept over twice at my place. The next day (before winter break) he had texted me saying that he hoped I could fit him in my schedule over break for dinner and to let him know when I'm available. I haven't spoken to him for about a week. Is it okay to text him first? I don't want to look desperate
