I lost my eee net book memory card?

I just noticed in my netbook the memory card is not there no more
& once it was sticking out so i pushed it back in the computer
but i think the same thing happened again and it fell somewhere and i lost it
Is it important to still have a memory card in??
because all the documents and stuff are still there..
