i live in nyc and want to buy a bicycle. i'm a beginner and don't want to spend alot?

ideally looking to spend less than $200-300. want a bike mainly for street biking. have no idea about types of bikes. i'd rather not spend alot now in case i don't really like biking.
 
What to you call a lot and what kind of bike you you want.

Look at the Forge M Street bikes, you will have to mail order it and assemble it or have some one elso do it but they are a good bike for the money. If you belong to AAA you can get a 10% discount.
