but so do dogs like pit bulls i tried mace but i think that makes them more upset and madder and chases me more i do now carry a 3.5 inch razor sharp blade with me (the longest blade you can carry legally) so any ideas
 
I know the problem. You need a good stick (not a knife.) Such dogs are bullies that tend to back off when you defend yourself.
Also, your problem is basically with the owner who should not allow their dogs to range free. You can file a legal complaint. If they bite you, you've got a good lawsuit.
