I know this is off topic but, I stopped going to church. What was up with my pastor?

went to a baptist Christian church for a little bit. Then after awhile, since I was a criminal justice student in college, I had a moral and spiritual awakening. So I switched majors. I also sat down with my pastor and spoke to him one on one. Now let me tell you a few things first;

He preaches about taking care of your body.
- now I understand some people are either old and can't move too well or some people are disabled. I'm not trying to paint an elitist picture here that everyone must be perfect. Just follow me here. This man is 33, wife and a daughter. Daughter is about 4 or 5 now. Preacher talks of gluttony, and how over eating is bad moral and health wise. Here he is, young man but fat. He and his wife feed their daughter burger king.

He speaks out against government and explains that we are losing our liberties.
- I agree.

He says that one should be ashamed if during the coming of Christ, that drinking a beer would be embarrassing.
- The abuse of alcohol is bad but not evil. I'm not evil for drinking.

He told me that heaven is not what I think it's going to be for me which is women, video games, comic books, a gym to workout in, making and playing movies.
- He then goes onto how in heaven, he will have a ranch where he can hunt in heaven.

He smiles.
- I see something else behind his smile.

Now during the one on one conversation, I discuss with him about the war on drugs and my views which will keep me from becoming a police officer in today's climate. I tell him that I believe marijuana should be legal and up to the individual to make up their own mind. God provided everything we need and it's on the Earth. His response, the oh so freedom lover, says in a real condescending tone of voice and patronizing smile, that marijuana should be illegal along with alcohol and people should not be lighting up. Now this is coming from a man who wants to own a gun without big brother telling him he can't. A man who believes in freedom of choice and government off his back. To me, this man is a hypocrite and I can't stand him.

So many people who are good are locked up in prisons for drugs!! Some are lifers!! WTF? He wants government to not tell him or us how to live or lives but HE wants to tell us what to do. By saying that during the time of the rapture, we shall be clean and not commiting sin. SO let me ask you a logical question. When may 21st or dec 21st happens if, when god shows himself to me as I smoke a blunt, I'm supposed to be regretful???? I'm not driving not am I around kids when smoking. If anythig, I am enjoying the lord's creation. I'm more with the lord than this man. At least I hope.

What's up with this guy?

just read the top line, maybe he thought youd stolen a golf ball or two!! sometimes paranoia is apparent in religious communities!!

There should be a rule that every time a minister preaches a screen comes down behind him and you get to see how he lived his life this last week. The problem is that your minister has as the Bible calls it a form of godliness but none of the power thereof. Not an uncommon issue for both clergy or members.

My personally view - God grants us the liberty to reject him, to go against him, to violate his laws designed for our own good but there are consequences to such choices in this life and the next. Take poor care of your health and you will suffer in this life and have no assurance of life in the next.

Anytime you see a person advocating a standard more restrictive that this know with certainty that they are not of God. However, this freedom must end where another persons enjoyment of life intersects. We have the right to live any way we want but we do not have the right to force others to do likewise for good or ill.

However, if you are going ti engage in harmful activities and pot is - then it would seem that you are he have much in common - by your own words you stand convicted as a hypocrite too . You cannot condemn him for his failure if you wish to cling to your own. Yes, you ware harming mostly just yourself but know ye not that ye are not your own for ye were bought with a price

Some of the things u mentioned makes ur pastor seem contradictory. Don't be so quick to judge him at the same time tho. Just because he's large & feeds his daughter BK doesn't mean him or his family are glutton lol the bit about owning a gun tho...that seems strange along with hunting in Heaven (wtf?) As for drugs, the bible gives against it. Weed is the most mellow of all drugs but, think of the big picture here- It's still a drug & people don't do the most idealic things to get it/sell it & make a profit. Which is why drugs are frowned upon in the bible or by the pastor,I suppose.

Overall, I dnt agree with what ur pastor preaches. Just cuz he's a spiritual figure in the church doesn't necessarily mean he's out to do good. Many of them have ulterior motives ie mula. Anyway, if ur not comfortable with his personal beliefs, switch churches. When u find a new church, spend time with ur pastor & get his view on issues & see if that makes sense with urs. Keep in mind no pastor is gonna advocate u getting lifted lmao but he can prob better explain why mari is not acceptable by the bible's standards.

This also has to do with ur mindset too. If u smoke, u obviously don't see it as harmful to urself or society. While I agree there are way more harmful affects in alcohol & cigarettes than in weed, it will always conflict with any churches belief. So good luck trying to convince them its permissible lol I guess this is where u ask urself what's more important...smoking a blunt or deepening ur relationship with God ?

There's so much more I can elaborate on, but i already wrote u a freakin essay lol Peaceee
