opinion: Which is the better? Scenario do you think?
1) To have a privileged upbringing, with a secure family unit, yet constantly look for and seek reasons to feel angst about your life, search for the things that make you feel 'Woe is me'.

2) TO be born into poverty, live in harsh circumstances, lead a hard life yet constantly seek the thoughts that are positive, find the things that make you feel happy, search for the joy in life?

Of the two, which would you rather have?

I lived in Africa for many years and the main impression that the little African children have in my mind is their zest for life, their joie de vivre, their laughter. I know they had harsh lives yet somehow they seem to radiate a love of life, I am speaking generally of course.

I compare that to British and American kids, who have most of what money could buy, extra hobbies, computers, travel etc and yet they often seem to be surly, unappreciative and miserable.

Which upbringing do you think is most beneficial and why?
