The meat industry is responsible for massive amounts of CO2 emissions. Producing all of the food needed for feed consumes large amounts of fertilizer, ground water, pesticides and fuels. On top of this, antibiotics and growth hormones are administered to the animals. Then, they are packaged up in petroleum based plasics and get shipped via fossil fuels to your grocery store, sometimes travelling thousands of miles.
Compare the CO2 emissions for producing one pound of beef versus producing one pound of wheat. I bet beef is dozens of times higher.
