...would there be an arrest? A friend was finger printed, and couple days later the detective called and said his prints came back on the murder weapon. But he has not been arrested yet. Would'nt he had already been picked up by authorites if his prints were a match?

AJ is right, they also might be bluffing in order to see if he admits.. in which case they don't even need to go through with the print to have him arrested. It's just an extra step at that point.

Not necessarily. But if I were your friend I'd go ahead and start getting that attorney lined-up for my defense. Just in case, ya know?
