I know absolutely nothing about bikes...help?

My friend wants to work on his motorcycle and asked me to help him. I agreed of course because I want to learn more. Although all I know at this point is that he wants to strip his bike and get it a new body.

So...any suggestions on how to brush up on motorcycles so I'm not a complete idiot when I help him out?
