I just set up a new 55 gal tank yesterday & added shrimp to begin the cycle

today my water smells & is cloudy? I have a whisper 60 filter and since I am planning on getting cichlds, I have crushed shells as a substrate to produce a higher PH. I also have the temp up to 80 degrees
