i just saw a small falcon like,attaching pigeon in my garden ,what sort of bird is it?

it was bigger that a pigeon cream colours ,i couldn't see it for long because the pigeon was hurt and a bunch of crows landed in my garden after .
what sort of bird does it? is it a falcon?is it normal? i live near a town.
every spring i find dead birds but i always tought it was the cats. now i was left with a garden covered in blood and feathers
