Wear a helmet, eye protection, gloves, over the ankle foot wear and long sleeves. Leather or other "ballistic" outer wear would be a plus. Bright colors are also good.
"Draggin' Jeans" makes a long sleeve tee shirt out of Kevlar for warm weather riding. Kevlar is the material that they make bullet proof vests out of.
Consider a pulsating or modulating headlight. I have one and it seems to get other drivers attention. I notice that they are always looking directly at me as I go by them.
