Can I break my lease? ive been in tears the apartment is not ok to live in.. the tenents before us said they just tried to make it look good but they failed that it made up want to buy it!!! not till we walked in to move did you find a note for them stating all the bad things about.. we have roaches everywhere and he is sending someone out but I dont think its going to help ive seen way to many already. I want out but i think my roommates can stay for 6 months while looking for a new place.. i can not! what can I do?? can i break out alone based on heath and living conditions ????????? please help I need to get this done asap.

uigh ugh./ i really hate those damned roaches. i lived in florida in the past and had my place sprayed once a month and that kept them under control. if i didn't have my place sprayed it was horrific, roaches everywhere, i kept my place clean and never had any food lying around but i still had to have spraying done. i used to wonder about the chemicals in the spray but i really had no choice other than moving. i think you should give the landlord a reasonable amount of time to correct the problem then if he does not then i would take some sort of action

Take lots and lots of pictures, then refuse to pay and fuss fuss fuss. The owner may have a time period to correct, but if you give him enough grief (and there are room mates who still pay) he may let you out. Send copies of the photos to his office as intimidation and some to the health dept. Ask the health dept if he has any prior offenses with them- use that!

You need to give the landlord a chance to correct the problem. If he is unable to, then you should be able to break the lease.
