the floor. The mechanic? didnt seem concerned and said bring it back monday, this was friday.. by saturday I could barely stop the car. I took it Saturday and parked it at his shop until Monday. It is now Monday and they say that my master cylinder is blown. this is another 200.00. it just doesnt feel right to me. any comments on if i am getting treated fairly?

How bad were the brakes when you took the car into the shop? Was the pedal going all the way to the floor when you took it in? I'm not going to say the master cylinder isn't bad because it's a possibility but if you only took the car in because the brakes were grinding or screeching but you had normal pedal travel then I'd say there's something suspicious going on. Can you give more information about the problem? How bad were the brakes when you took it in? How did the pedal feel when you took it in?

I would take it somewhere else and have it looked at before paying for a new master cylinder, it could be something as simple as needing the system bled or maybe you have a leaky wheel cylinder (only applies to drum brakes...wheel cylinder rebuild kits usually cost between $12-20 depending on vehicle). Good luck!
