the problem?Should I worry? It's on my 77 tans am. It misses ever so often and makes a blow out of the muffler..with a small amount of white smoke. The motor itself is quiet.

Mike gave good advice. Definitely take it back to the guy/shop who rebuilt and be nice but 'forceful' about the problem. A rebuilt motor should run like butter. It was taken completely apart, and put back together.. a miss shouldn't be occuring.

And the mechanic should stand by the work if it is taken back soon as it can't be blamed on some odd wear and tear after x weeks/months.

Likely it is a plug wire, spark plug,.. Dist. cap.. etc -- Something small, easily fixed.

When a cylinder fails to fire,.. a bit of smoke 'can' come out as a result of the fuel in the exhaust.. sometimes that can start causing backfires and so on as it is reignited on the backend of the cycle (but doesn't sound like this is happening).

At any rate,.. get back to the mechanic and just show him the problem.

I wouldn't worry, but do get it fixed.. and don't pay for it. :)
