I just got the extended battery for htc evo at sprint store..how long do i gotta charge it before use?

i paid 60 bucks for the htc evo 4g extended battery for the htc evo phone from sprint and i dont wanna use it if its gonna screw it up.. i just charged it right away and within 40 mins it finished but im still letting it on.. do i have to keep it on? anyone who bought this from the sprint store let me kno.. what u did so i kno id appreciate it
