...modem. please help.? I'm trying to get a wireless network going here at home. I connected the comcast router to the internet port of my router (linksys WRT54G), then my computer to the router (ethernet port). When I do this, my computer can't connect to the internet anymore, and I can't even get to the router setup page: 192.168.1.1. I read somewhere that maybe the page was changed, and to get it back to the default (192.168.1.1), I need to hard reset it, so I try hard resetting. I press the reset button for 30 seconds like it says, but I'm still not able to get to the router setup page. Please help, I'm getting really frustrated now.
it's a desktop.
dmoc 12? what's that? version 3.2? of what? no comprendo. haha.
for the reset thing, i've already pressed reset for 30 seconds, and nothing happened. my chopstick worked fine, by the way.
To set up your router, you first have to connect to it with a cat 5 cable to any of the LAN Ports...not a cross-over cable. In your browser, go to 192.168.1.1, assuming that this is the default address for the router. If that address does work, try variations such as 192.178.1.100, 192.168.1.XXX.
The Manual for the Linksys WRT54G is available as a PDF file on-line. It is possible that the router is defective. I have had some issues with Linksys routers and PPOE accounts, and found that a Belkin Router was a 5 minute operation compared to 2 hrs trying to get the WRT54G working properly. I had taken that WRT54G as a partial payment for some Networking that I had done...it could have been defective as well.
@John: haha, cat 5: had to google that one, i normally hear ppl calling it the rj45 cable, and it is what i used for the router. the modem that came with my comcast connection is a modem with an rj45 port in the back. when i plug my desktop directly into it, i can get on the net, but
