I just got screwed by the police

For all you "HATERS" out there i suggest you look into doing a ride-a-long(in the front seat this time) with your local department. Also to better put things into perspective is a good book called "On sheep, wolves and sheepdogs" by retired Lt Commander Dave Grossman.

Some of you people need to get over yourselves and grow up.

1) Do track days and you don't have cops on your ass.
2) Use your head when riding on the road. Look around and know your roads.
3) A radar detector will help immensely.
4) Have a great lawyer if you get popped.

I ride fast most of the time ( 80-90 on highway/tollways). I don't ride as fast on roads I don't know. I don't go more than 10-15 over on major roads (35-45 MPH zones). I don't go more than 10 over on residential streets (25-30 MPH). I generally don't ride many Residential streets. I try to stay on Highway and "Open" roads. Yeah, I'll open it up to 100 + almost everytime I am out, but usually on familiar highways in short bursts. I may throw a 135 + in from time to time on an open road in the country, but I pick my spots. I know how fast the bikes are, I have nothing to prove. It's more fun tearing up a sweeper or a ramp at 80+ , than going straight.

Cops like being cops. They like giving tickets to speeders. It's a matter of Revenue for all the states and municipalities. Also, as the economy "tanks", there will be MORE tickets issued, as Revenue enhancemant. Fact of life in the U S A. This summer will be worst than last, as far as speed traps and ticket giving go's (Most states economies are hurting real bad as a result of the recession).

Leads me back to my first point; Want to enjoy your DUC, do as many track days as you can.....

Ask your Lawyer to plead it down to NO points but pay the fine! I've done this many times with my Lawyer(brother) and they get the money and this makes them happy!

We also have some bad apples on two wheels that give us a bad name with the police!

be safe!

After reading X pages it seems we have a lot of Leo's here.

My step son whom I put through college for seven years is a Sherrifs deputy. Upon graduation I had him swear an oath not to stop sport bikes. He is true to his word.

He loves his story of a 21 ish guy on his gixxer 1000.
Seems the guy was doing a stand up wheelie at about 80 on a long road. Apparently it was up there for a half mile. So my kid stops him whereas the perp is now filling his pants. He gets the I can eat you lecture BS etc. Then my kid critiquies his wheelie, advises that he's a squid blood stain on the centerline work in progress rant, and lets him off.

That gixxer kid will be telling the story for many years. Hope it tamed him a bit.

But,,, he does love cracking Milwaukee Fergusons for anything. Around here straight pipes are just a 10 day get it fixed, and 80% of the cops ride them. So thats almost a waste of time. But the loud pipes are what attracts him to them. He'll write a ferguson rider for 9 over. Then umpteen equipment violations etc. I am proud to say that I raised that kid correctly! No mercy for them hog riders.

I wonder if putting a lot of chrome on our sport bikes would help.

My kid isn't interested in bikes going 20 over.
He focuses on more important job aspects than stupid traffic stops. Whats the big deal if some guy on a bike is going 70 in a 50. Nothing.

When he sees something notable in traffic he'll respond. (a goodun that will stick)
Soccer moms with a bunch of kids in the van are a favorite. Putting makeup on while driving, multi tasking on the cell phone, and 20 over are a favorite. She's toast. Send her to San Quentin for endangering those kids.

I've been lucky. No speeding tickets in 20 years. I did get a BS ticket in Bartlett IL a couple years ago. Total frickin BS. A downhill stop on a slightly snowy surface and that useless ABS on the car caused me to slide into an intersection at a red. She saw that I was a foreigner from cheeseland and wrote it. I was an easy target for her.

Per JohnnyDuc...Cops like being cops. They like giving tickets to speeders. It's a matter of Revenue for all the states and municipalities. Also, as the economy "tanks", there will be MORE tickets issued, as Revenue enhancemant. Fact of life in the U S A.

In addition, they have to write even more tickets to meet their quotas. Exceed their quotas lead to promotions. Promotions lead to pay raises.

Irvine, CA., in the late 80's, there was a police officer whom wrote a thousand tickets in one months. I don't know how he did it. But it was in the papers.

It is much nicer here in England!

The Police officers only have bicycles here (otherwise their tall hats fall off in the wind). By the time they have put their cycle clips on their trousers we are on our way to the Ye Olde Tea Shoppe. If they know where we live they pop round after their shift, have a word with our parents and then father gives you a cuff round the ear.
