so i read i have to dechlorinate the water or something to that sort. i wanted to know if putting water through a brita filter would be good? or bottled water. also do beta fish like things in the tank with them such as hiding places or plants? thank you

Well, Bettas are naturally aggressive, so they should only be placed in a tank alone. Also, I think a 2.5 or a 5 gallon tank is good for one. They absolutely LOVE plants, and I would throw in a hiding place. What I do is feed mine a pinch of betta food every morning. If you don't have a filtered tank, I would suggest that you clean their cage at least once every two days, but if you have a filtered tank you can clean the tank once a week. One last thing: Do NOT ever leave a mirror in front of their tank, because they will go ballistic and beat themselve's to death.

Good luck with your fish ^^

If you have well water, you can usually get away with filling from the tap with no problems. If you have water from town/city water system or use bottled water, there are many additives that can make the water a very stressful environment for the fish to live in, if not deadly. A brita filter does NOT fully remove chlorine in water, it is more so just clean debris of sorts. You can go to any pet store and buy a water conditioner and they are relatively cheap.

Also they really flourish when they have a larger environment to swim in, I've always used plants and shells with my bettas, and they seem to enjoy it.

Good luck with your bettas!

They don't like tons of space. And don't put other fish in there with them. They are aggressive fish.

They don't belong in community tanks

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT TAP WATER IN THE TANK!!!!!! THE WATER WILL KILL IT Put in bottled water. If you have kentwood water that always works the best. as far as for plants yes but don't make it crowded!! Two plant at the most

Use tap water but buy the little dechlorinator thing (betta water conditioner). What you put in the tank depends on how much space you have. If you have something small, you obviously don't want to overcrowd it. =] So if you have space, I recommend you put some plants in there. Real plants, though. The plastic ones can potentially rip your bettas fins. If you put other hiding places, make sure there aren't any sharp edges. There have been countless stories of bettas having their fins ripped/damaged because of decor.

Just use tap.You don't have to use nothing fancy. And what ever you do do not put him or her in with another fish or else he or her will eat the other fish. And you don't need alot of space you could really just get a small vase and but some rocks at the bottom and the fish would be happy.

Hope i helped
