I joined the army as a 21b combat engineer and i was looking forward to the enlistment bonus. after i chose the job i was told there was no bonus. i'm a little clueless and to how thing work and wanted some advice on how things should have been handled. did i make the right decision?
My answer- well it wasn't just for the money. but if i'm doing something as drastic to me as joining the united states army i was expecting something. but thank you all for your answers and i love forward to serving my country along side those who have served already. thank you

MAKE SURE EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU IS IN YOUR CONTRACT! If it's not in your contract, the military or whomever promised you the bonus doesn't have to live up to it. If you don't remember, you should review the packet they gave you at MEPS.

thats how the Army works.the recruiters will tell you anything to get you to join...

I served 8 years

Well if you were joining for just the money you are going to be in for a rude awakening.

Why didn't you ask the career counselor if any MOS's you qualified for came with a bonus?

When I first joined I got nothing, reenlisted got station of choice, my 3rd time got a prior service bonus. Do I feel cheated? Of course not. That is why you do research ahead of time. You made the choice to join.

Not every potential Soldier is entitled to a bonus. That is the key it is not an entitlement it is an incentive for people to drop civilian life and go Army. Personally I don't like the fact that many new recruits seem to be mercenary in their attitudes toward the service. Why don't you put up some more information? Was it in your contract? Are you even in yet?
