...today or in the US? It was some time ago --- but I hitch hiked through Canada from one coast to the other ---- you can't hitch hike to the 3rd coast although I tried to figure out how to do it any way--- But winter roads need to be frozen in order to be roads at all --- so it is impossible

-------------------------

I had a great time --- but I wouldn't ever do it again

If I did that today in Canada would that be the end of me and what about the US ---- a pretty sure death sentence ?

I am just curious
Josh

Way back when then Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau suggested we all give back packing through Europe a try --- or at least go hitch a ride and see the Province next to yours ---- and we did It was great and everyone lent a hand --

There is work here --- jump in lets go boys

Hitchhiking isnt a smart thing to do in our country or in Canada. There are too many deaths of people who did just as you wish to do, set yourself up to hitch a ride with a stranger. No thanks. Too many nutcases in both countries.

:o) Way back when (early to mid-seventies through the early eighties.) I use to hitch hike all over the place. Mostly by myself. Very young, and all 95 pounds of me. I frequently hitch hiked between here and Southern California. I hitch hiked between Ohio and Miami. I hitch hiked everywhere, a lot. And the truth is... I had some of the best times of my life and met a lot of great people. But I was EXTREMELY lucky. I wouldn't even consider doing so now. And as the mother of sons.. they would each get a piece of my mind and a firmly planted foot in their butts if I caught them doing it. No Way. Too many loons running around.

I hitch hiked all over Australia in the mid 1980's.

But hypocritically enough I would be horrified if my kids said they wanted to do the same thing! ROFL!!

Ivan Milat was operating in some of the regions I traveled through at the time, so I guess I was a very lucky girl.

And Bradley John Murdoch was working some of the others at the time...so I don't think it was all that safe then either.

Actually eff me......I've just realised that Charles Sobraj was working S-E Asia while my older sister was doing it there.

And my older brother was murdered in South Africa in 1979 while he hitched up the coast to Durban...but we think the apartheid police got him.Since his bank account in Cape Town and his entry visa to the country disappeared at the same time he did.

It was probably NEVER a safe thing to do. The folly of youth, eh?

Hell's bells! How could we have done that to our poor parents? They must have been insane all the time we were gone.
