I hired a lawyer and gave him $500 (retainers fee) can I get that back?

I hired him for a custody case but im not able to give him anymore money before the first court date which is in a couple of days so If im not able to keep this lawyer,should I be able to get my money back or at least some of it?
 
Look at your "contract" with said lawyer. Many retainer fees are not refundable. Depends on what the two of you agreed on.
 
Please remember that Myanmar people believed that what you gave to a lawyer is same as that a chicken drink water but the water will never come back even as urine.

So that, my answer is you will never get back form him.
