I haven't dyed my hair in 4 months. Can I go from black to this chestnut brown?

I dyed my hair black 4 or 5 months ago, my hair is not jet jet black but a softish black.
I want to go back to a way lighter colour, possibly like this one?

Is there a way? Because I have semi-curly hair I'm afraid if I go to a salon it will end up falling off and breaking :/
 
it will take a few times of dying it to get it exactly how you want it, bleach it. then dye it the brown. my friend Megan did that. and it came VERY close to the color you want. hope i helped(:
